On Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Holbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a field fire two miles west and 3 1/2 miles north of Holbrook at the intersection of roads 417 and 726. The HEA (Holbrook/Edison/Arapahoe), Cambridge and Beaver City Fire Departments all responded. Sunday evening, HEA headed back to the field to put out hot spots due to the wind. The cause of the fire was a combine.

It was heartbreaking to learn that Corporal Daegan William-Tyeler Page of the United States Marine Corps was among the 13 American servicemembers killed in last month’s terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.

We’ve come a long way over the last year. Nebraska has managed the coronavirus pandemic without lockdowns, without statewide mandates, and without vaccine passports. We have the third lowest fatality rate from COVID-19 in the country. And we’ve fully vaccinated 87.5% of our 65+ population.

“The people you love the most are the ones who hold the power to hurt you so completely.” That’s not my line. It belongs to an author named Cheryl McIntyre from a book I haven’t read and probably never will, but it has resonated with me lately as I can see myself in the role of both the contributor and the recipient. Such are the perils of the modern family.

Robert “Bob” Dale Wood, 87 of Fort Shaw, passed away unexpectedly September 4, 2021 at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home and per Bob’s wishes there will be no services at this time.

Doris Irene Howey, age 94, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was born on February 23, 1927 in Harlan County, Nebraska to Roy and Loretta (Hoppe) Snyder.

Rollie Carter, age 84, of Aurora, NE passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at his home following a yearlong battle with metastatic lung cancer. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m.
