On May 12, 2022, Cambridge Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met in regular session in the community building with 7 members and one guest present. After Presentation of the Colors, Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble, the meeting was called to order by President Marlene Witte at 2:10 p.m. Pres. Witte introduced our guest, prospective new member Carol Cotton. If she joins, our membership will be 37. The minutes of the April meeting were read. Jo made a motion to accept the minutes and Chala seconded the motion. Motion passed. Pres. Witte reminded us of the ceremony at the school at 1:15 p.m. the following day honoring all alumni in the armed services.

Lincoln, Neb., May 17, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has funding available to assist agricultural producers whose land was impacted by recent wildfires. Landowners have until June 30 to apply. Through the HYPERLINK “https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/ wps/portal/nrcs/main/ne/ programs/financial/eqip/” \t “_blank” Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funding is available to help producers plan and implement conservation practices on farms and ranches impacted by natural disasters. EQIP funding is available to assist in this wildfire recovery effort by planting cover crops on impacted cropland and to defer grazing on rangeland. “Numerous fires have impacted farmers and ranchers across Nebraska over the past several weeks leaving ground vulnerable to erosion,” said Rob Lawson, state conservationist for NRCS. “We can assist landowners with installing conservation practices to help prevent any further damage to their agricultural land and aid in the recovery of rangeland productivity and soil health.” “NRCS can help with recovery efforts,” Lawson said. “Our staff works one-on-one with landowners to assess the damage and develop approaches that lead to an effective recovery of the land.”

CURTIS, Neb. – Academic honors for students at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture were announced for the Spring Semester.

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney announced students who earned a place on the dean’s list for the spring 2022 semester. Students who are on the dean’s list must have completed 12 credit hours or more of classes with a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale.
