Mary Patricia “Pat” Innocence Young, age 95, of Cambridge, passed away at the Ridgeway Senior Living in Lexington, NE on April 18, 2023. She was born in Lawrence, NE on December 28, 1927, to Clement and Elisabeth (Ostdiek) Witte. The family moved to Cambridge when Pat was three years old. Pat attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945. She was the only child of 11 children of the family to graduate high school.

25 Years Ago April 23, 1998 The City Council held a hearing Monday evening regarding a proposed zoning change requested by Steve Fisher, who plans to construct a new convenience store just east of the home of Hazel Fisher. Neighboring property owners expressed concerns that construction would decrease the value of their property, also that traffic through the alley would increase and be a safety issue.

ing services with 87 attending Sunday school. A basket dinner was shared at noon. Rev. Hoesch of Holdrege was the afternoon speaker to 120 guests. A letter and poem by Mrs. George Strickland of Arizona was read by Mrs. Lawrence Ehrke. The history of Bethel Church was read by Mrs. Lavern McInturf. “The Lord’s Prayer” was sung by Mrs. Tom Ralston. Corsages were presented to three charter members who regularly attended Bethel services: Mrs. Otto Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Arden Brizendine. Corsages were given to the two ladies who were members of the double wedding held at Bethel in 1898: Mrs. Hattie Woodruff and Mrs. Mary Bucklin. Nine people were present who attended Bethel sixty years ago and fourteen who attended fifty years ago. Mrs. Herman Ehrke baked and decorated a large cake, an exact replica of the Bethel church.

Good Samaritan Society is pleased to announce they have awarded a social accountability grant in the amount of $2500. This grant coupled with a generous donation of $500 from Arapahoe Thrivent allows for the funding of “Supplies for Scholars”.

A line dance to get everyone out on the floor during the Elwood High School Prom danced the night away and following the dance the kids went to the YMCA in Holdrege for more activities. Red Cross Bloodmobile was in Elwood April 16 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and had the goal of 42 units.
