A few members were able to come join in a last-minute time change to beat the rain to lay mulch at Cambridge Downtown Park. Earlier this week David and Kathy Benson placed mulch around where Kathy Benson, Barb Langley and Kathy Lewis planted flowers in the cement flower bed. BEAVER CITY – The City Council was able to conduct business for their regular bimonthly meeting in under one hour on Monday, May 15. There were no public comments, but the board discussed the potential need for the health subcommittee to look at some houses in town to determine if steps should be taken to ensure public safety.

Willard “Owen” Elmer June 13, 1938 - May 10, 2023 W. Owen Elmer passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Kearney, Nebraska; he was surrounded by his family. Owen was born on June 13, 1938 at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, Nebraska to Willard P and Arlene L (Welborn) Elmer. He graduated from Indianola Public Schools and attended UNL until returning to Indianola to help with the family business, Indianola Oil Company.

Seven qualify for Class C State Track

Southern Valley Public Schools hosted the 2023 NSA C-8 District Track Meet. Three Southern Valley athletes qualified, and four Hi-Line athletes qualified. The Southern Valley girls team placed fifth overall while the Hi-Line girls placed tenth. On the boys side, Hi-Line took fifth and Southern Valley toak ninth Bulls Ryker Evans, Asher Hecox, Isaiah Bullis, and Treyton Evans qualified. Evans won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, qualifying in both events.

Twenty-Four qualify for Class D State Track

Arapahoe, Cambridge, and Southwest tracksters competed at the 2023 D-7 NSAA District Meet in Cambridge last Wednesday. Between the three schools, twenty-four athletes qualified for state: three from Arapahoe, nine from Southwest, and twelve from Cambridge. The Cambridge girls were District Champions, the Southwest girls took eighth, and the Arapahoe girls got tenth. The Cambridge boys took fifth, the Arapahoe boys took sixth, and the Southwest boys took seventh.
