Emily Whipple, the Agricultural Education Instructor at Ainsworth Community Schools, was awarded the Outstanding Early Career Teacher Award by the Nebraska Agricultural Educators Association (NAEA) at the NAEA Awards Ceremony held on June 7th at the Nebraska Career Education Conference. Award winners are nominated and selected by their peers.

Oxford Board discusses utilities with Golden Generation

Members of the Golden Generation Center Board were in attendance at the Village of Oxford Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, June 12 to discuss assistance with utilities. They told the board they serve about 40 meals each day as well as getting to check in on many people when delivering meals. They said it is probably the nicest facility in town and that it is used for many different activities.

Macy Jones accepts golf scholarship

Don Sackett presents Macy Jones with her certificate for the Central Nebraska Senior Golf Association $1000 Scholarship. Jones attended Cambridge Public Schools and qualifi ed for State Golf all four years of high school, placing 7th or 8th in District V competition three times. She will attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Radiography, specializing in Sonography.

Furnas County 4-H Shoot was held on April 22nd, 2023 at the Arapahoe Izaak Walton facility. Senior Trap participants -31 Junior Trap participants- 20 .22 Rifle participants-16 Archery participants-26 BB Gun participants-20 53rd Annual Cornhusker Trapshoot, Doniphan-Dierks Sayer received a trophy after tying for 1st place in the 18 yard HC division representing Furnas County 4-H.

Kids enjoyed Big Power Day at the Beaver City Public Library

Big Power Day took place at the Beaver City Public Library on Friday, June 9, showing kids different vehicles used for jobs in the community. Workers of Beaver City showed off large vehicles, brought the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and demonstrated how to use equipment for kids during the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vehicles on display included an ambulance, fire engine, trash truck, excavator and tractor. Volunteers from the Beaver City Volunteer Fire Department and EMS showed kids how to use equipment and turn on sirens in the ambulance and fire engine. Deputy Colin Rogers of the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office came as part of the K-9 Unit for part of the event to show off his partner, Nikka. Donovan’s Smoke Shack displayed their truck as well while serving lunch.

Christian Women’s Connection June 20

Lexington Area Christian Women’s Connection will meet on Tuesday, June 20th at Kirk’s at 6:30 p.m. It is also Men’s Night. Speaker is Gayle Haas of Aurora, Illinois. Her program is titled A Visit With Corrie Ten Boom. It is about a Dutch Holocaust survivor who helped Jews escape the Nazi regime. Music is Deb and Roger Wells. (Grand Island, Neb.) – Central Community College has announced the names of full-time students who earned spots on the President’s and Dean’s honor lists for the 2023 spring semester.
