According to Beaver City Chamber of Commerce president Meredith Williams, this year’s Soup Supper and Gift Draw was a great success. The annual event was held on Wednesday, December 13 at the community center, with approximately 80 people in attendance.

Our 4-H Assistant, Makayla Livingston went to the Beaver City Public Library where she held a snowman workshop. We had a small group but that didn’t stop us on having fun! We also learned about what snowmen do at night while eating our reindeer munch.

Indianola Council approves new signs for cemetery and baseball field

The Indianola City Council held their meeting on December 18th and began by approving the minutes of December 4, 2023, as written. Council member Paul Blume was absent from the meeting and all others were present. Members approved the November 2023 Treasurer Report and to file for audit. A building permit for Richard and Larae Garettson at 119 N. 6th Street was tabled until the next meeting, as the Planning and Zoning Committee had also tabled the permit due to a large number of unknown flags at the building site. The Council approved the Reorganization of Council, the Resolution No. 2023-12-01 Year-End Certification of City Street Superintendent, and a Memorandum of Understanding with Community Hospital.

Calving Workshops to help producers prepare for calving season

Nebraska Extension is hosting a hands-on Calving Workshop at two locations in January featuring Becky Funk, DVM and Extension Specialist, and Lindsay Waechter-Mead, DVM and Extension Educator. Topics covered will include calving equipment and proper use, techniques for managing dystocia, when to call for help, and hands-on demonstration and training using a life-size model cow and calf.

Festive Light Parade in Oxford

Downtown Oxford was full of merry-makers on the evening of Wednesday, December 13 for their first of hopefully many light parades. The late afternoon and evening activities sponsored by the Oxford Chamber of Commerce started with a soup supper at 4 pm. The light parade began at six and featured two groups of carolers. The First Baptist Church carolers began the parade and the Kid’s Club carolers brought up the rear. Those taking part were thankful of the planning put into the event by Kristi Quinn and Shawnna Miller.
