High school students win $40k at mCC inter-High Day

Area high school students took exams and made presentations in 26 academic subjects Wednesday at McCook Community College’s Inter-High Day. More than $15,000 was awarded in scholarships and another $25,000 awarded in free tuition credits.

Rotary Back Pack Program Donations

The Cambridge Area Rotary Club recently donated $250 checks to Arapahoe Public Schools, Cambridge Public Schools, and Southwest Public Schools to support their BackPack programs. These programs are designed to assist children who may face food insecurity, ensuring they have access to nutritious and easily prepared meals and snacks during weekends and school vacations when other resources may be limited.

Furnas County Spelling Bee results

The Furnas County Spelling Bee was held February 14 @ Arapahoe. Thirty-one students from Arapahoe, Cambridge, and Southern Valley’s 5th-8th grades attended. After a long battle in the oral round, Cambridge’s Kate Salberg was crowned the champion and will compete at the Regional Spelling Bee in Omaha on March 9. BARTLEY- The Village Board of Trustees held their regular bi-monthly meeting on February 13 with three members present, constituting a quorum. They approved minutes from both January meetings and the financial report and claims. They also voted to put the library annual report on file.

For Children’s Dental Health Month, Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) encourages parents to teach good dental habits and get regular dental care for their children. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommend that children visit their dentist no later than their first birthday and every six months after that. When children learn how to care for their teeth early in life, their families save on costs and prevent future problems.
