Several Medicine Valley FCCLA members attended the Peer Education Conference recently. Jordy Phillips helped to plan and lead the conference. During opening session it was also announced that Giavanna Doyle and Ashtyn Contrerez are finalist for the 2024-2025 State Peer Officer Team! They will continue the process at State Conference in April.

Southwest School Board addresses budget questions, contracts, and pay raises

The Southwest Public School Board called the monthly meeting to order at 7:31 PM. All board members were present. The board approved the meeting agenda, prior claims, prior minutes, and treasurer’s report. The board then adhered to Derek Meyers’ request to be added to the agenda to discuss budget questions. Meyers questioned Southwest’s substantial general and depreciation funds, noting that such high numbers impacted property tax. No specific action was requested or taken.

Statement by Farm Bureau President regarding SEC Climate Disclosure Rule

LINCOLN, NEB. – “Following significant outcry from farmers and ranchers across Nebraska and across our nation, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) did the right thing reacently in voting not to include Scope 3 or supply chain emissions in their final Climate Disclosure Rule. The original proposal, released two years ago, initially required publicly traded companies to report the greenhouse gas emissions of their supply chain which would likely have forced many farms and ranches into onerous data-gathering and reporting requirements.”

Furnas County Sheriff ’s office receives grant for speed control equipment

The Furnas County Sheriff ’s Office is being awarded a highway safety grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office (NDOT-HSO) to assist in obtaining one mobile radar unit, according to William Kovarik, Administrator for the NDOT Highway Safety Office. Kovarik states, “Technology holds immense promise when it comes to mitigating human error.

Church members sort and box items to give to the Orphan Grain Train

Members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cambridge, gathered on Sunday, March 10 to sort and box clothing, shoes, stuffed toys, and miscellaneous items for the Orphan Grain Train, Grand Island. This project is completed every spring and fall as a community service for the members of Cambridge Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary met March 11 & 12 to freshen up the store and put out spring and summer merchandise. The Thrift Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 1:00-5:00. Proceeds from the sale of items at the Thrift Shop support Tri Valley Health System hospital, clinic and Assisted Living, Nursing scholarships, as well as the needs of community organizations and individuals. Longtime Arapahoe Principal to retire next year

Longtime Arapahoe Principal to Retire Next Year The school board accepted the resignation of Rudy Perez at the end of the 2024-2025 school year during their March 11, 2024 meeting. Perez joked immediately following the meeting that after 34 years in education, his wife was allowing him to retire.
