Vera Ellen (Wright) Martin, age 94, of Hendley, Ne passed away on October 18th, 2024 at Beaver City Manor, in Beaver City, Nebraska. She was born to Howard “Bud” and Opal Cecilia (Knapp) Wright on December 6th, 1929, in Salina, Kansas.

Raiders battle Paxton, weather in loss

Friday’s wet away matchup at Paxton took its toll on the Medicine Valley football team. The Raiders lost the game 20-51 and suffered numerous injuries on the slippery field.

Wolves fall short of playoff berth

The Maywood/Hayes Center football team went into its Friday contest against Bertrand knowing it needed a win to give itself a chance to make the Class D2 playoffs. The postseason wasn’t meant to be as the Wolves trailed 0-26 before finding the end zone in the second half of the 7-26 loss.

Southwest turned back at SEM

SUMNER - The Southwest football team took on one of the State’s very best Friday afternoon, but returned home with a 56-22 defeat, falling to 4-3 this season. The Roughriders fought a losing battle in field position as top-ranked Sumner-Eddyville-Miller needed only 225 yards of offense to score 56 points, including a 48-6 lead at the half.

Cambridge shut out at Hitchcock County

TRENTON - A few miscues put the Cambridge football team in a bind early and the Trojans’ offense couldn’t recover in a 34-0 defeat at Hitchcock Countu Thursday. The Falcons capitalized on a pair of short fields in the first quarter after a blocked punt and a fumble and grabbed a 16-0 lead four minutes in.

Hi-Line drops finale to Alma

ELWOOD - A 20-point third quarter from the visitors broke open a tied game at the half as Alma took down Hi-Line 42-30 Friday night in both teams’ season finale. Gage Rupp scored three times and ran for 168 yards for Hi-Line, but the Bulls fell into too big a hole to recover in finishing the season 1-7.

2024 RPAC Volleyball Tournament Recap

Arapahoe rallies to upend Alma After two setbacks to the Cardinals earlier this season, the Arapahoe volleyball team advanced out of the first round with a five-set victory over third-seeded Alma Thursday. Alma and Arapahoe split tight decisions in sets one and two, 25-20 and 25-22, then the Cardinals took control with a dominant 25-14 win in the third.
