Offutt Air Force Base Role Grows

In 1916, Omaha native Jarvis Offutt entered officer training at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. The United States had not yet entered World War I, but tensions were simmering at home and exploding abroad. No doubt the Offutt family was carefully following news of the Great War. No doubt they wondered whether America would be pulled in. Jarvis asked to be transferred to aviation, and by the end of the year, he received his commission as a First Lieutenant in the Aviation Section, United States Signal Corps.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) reminds everyone to cover their coughs, particularly during this season when numerous viruses are making people ill. Viruses such as RSV and COVID-19 have been spreading at high levels throughout November and December, and influenza (the flu) is now also circulating.

ANELMO - With five medalists, the Hi-Line wrestling team finished fourth at the AnelmoMerna Invite Saturday. Parker Schutz led the Bulls with a first-place finish at 144 pounds, pinning his way to the title.

SARGENT - With four finalists, the Cambridge wrestling team took third place at the Twin Loup Invite in Sargent Friday. Carter Hanes led the Trojans with another first-place finish, improving to 12-0 this season at 150 pounds.
