Holbrook man found deceased along rural road

Friday afternoon at about 1:15 p.m., the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a sanitation truck driver. The driver reported that he had found a male subject in the west ditch along Road 414 approximately a quarter mile south of Road 725 northwest of Holbrook, Nebraska. The driver of the sanitation truck reported that the male subject was clearly deceased.

High has case bound over to district court

Nicholas High, of Bertrand, has had his case bound over to the District Court of Frontier County after he waived his preliminary hearing January 10. The charges had been amended and he now faces eight felony counts.

Beverly “Bev” Smith

Beverly “Bev” Smith, 86, passed away January 12, 2025 at the Life Care Center of Burlington in Burlington, Kansas. 

Graveside services in the Oberlin Cemetery of Oberlin, Kansas are pending at this time.

Community Hospital Health Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of Michal Swanson to its Board of Directors. wanson, who owns Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with his wife Angie, is a respected community leader and longstanding supporter of the Health Foundation.

Cambridge Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met on January 9, in regular session in the Community Building with 6 members present. After Presentation of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer and Preamble, Pres. Witte called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. Minutes of the December meeting were read. Cathy made a motion to approve them; Sandy seconded. The minutes were approved.
