CURTIS – The Associate Dean of Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) in Curtis predicts that when classes start on Monday, at least 35 students will be enrolled in the new Vet Tech Online Program.

CAMBRIDGE - As area golf teams teed off their season Thursday at the Cambridge Invite at Cross Creek Golf Links, Cambridge’s Hailey Evans and Southwest’s Maddy Tryon finished at the top of the leader board at the nine-hole tournament.

After girls golf and softball started their seasons last week, the remainder of high school sports will begin Thursday as cross country, volleyball and football teams open this week. All area teams except for Southwest football will compete this week.

LEXINGTON - The Southern Valley/Alma softball team captured one victory and had a pair of rallies come up short on opening weekend. On Friday, the Saints fell in an early hole and trailed 7-2 after three innings and 10-2 going to the bottom of the fifth.

My second week back home in the ‘Good Life’ was a literal breath of fresh air. Traveling to the panhandle, I met with Nebraskans in childcare centers, local businesses, and community discussions. Each conversation was a reminder that the heart of public service is listening — not just hearing concerns but understanding the challenges and aspirations that shape daily life in our towns and counties.

I probably say this every year, but I doubt I’ve meant it to this degree - I am absolutely ready for football season and what an opening week smorgasbord it will be. Starting Thursday, I can consume a football game 10 of the next 12 days, whether high school, college or professional.
