Benjamin Franklin famously wrote “in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Franklin was a legendary intellect, and it’s hard to overstate the impact he had. But I’d suggest an addition to that particular quote, one with which I suspect he’d agree.

Last week, I wrote about my team’s work to secure federal tax dollars Nebraskans already sent to Washington to improve the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island. This week, I want to update you on my recent visit to Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill and share my team’s efforts to invest federal tax dollars there as well.

Tax Day is nearly here. This tax season, the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering for Nebraskans and putting more money in your pocket. Recently, I’ve been travelling the state to share good news about this year’s tax returns. Workers will keep more of their income. Families will have more money to put toward groceries. Farmers and ranchers will be able to grow and reinvest. CBS News reports that the average tax refund will increase by about $1,000 per filer. This tax season will be better for hard-working Nebraskans.

Sheldon “Doc” W. Spickelmier, 82 of Curtis, Nebraska passed away on April 7th, 2026 at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Hospital in Aurora, CO after a two year battle with a spinal cord injury.

Deanna Jean “Dee” Chandler, age 65, passed away peacefully from complications of diabetes on April 6, 2026, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She was born in McCook, Neb., on August 20, 1960, to Gary A. and D. Jean (Nelson) Schick and spent most of her childhood in the Curtis, Neb. area. Her introduction to the work world was as a cook at the Raider Inn in Curtis, because at fourteen, she was too young to be a waitress.

Southern Valley placed 6th with a time of 60.27, which was run by Natalee Holste, Lauren Quinn, Laney Becker, and Paisley Hammond. In the 4x400-meter relay, MHC placed 2nd with a time of 4:18.18, which was run by Farr, A.
