Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is pleased to announce the launch of Healthy Families Nebraska – Southwest, a voluntary home visiting program designed to support families during pregnancy and early childhood.

Oxford Thrift Store Update

It has been almost three decades since the Oxford Thrift Store opened its doors in the then closed Clinic area of the hospital building in Oxford. Rhonda Scheske Barker, Glenda Hamilton and others began displaying and selling donated items in that location at that time. Then came the dream of relocating the store to Oxford’s Ogden Avenue in the downtown area. Many community volunteers were involved in renovating the chosen building and the store has been there ever since.

Last week’s fog didn’t come down in 3 days as rain, so we’ll hope it comes down in 100 days, along with much more before then! The calendar doesn’t say it’s spring yet, but I got a start on spring work yesterday (Monday). Wanted to be sure to get the lawn fertilizer/preemergent spread before the crabgrass sprouts.

Area students win big at MPCC Inter-High Day

Mid-Plains Community College’s 57th annual Inter-High Day brought together over 500 students from 22 area high schools to North Platte on Tuesday. They competed for scholarships and other prizes while taking tests in everything from art, accounting and criminal justice to auto body, welding and diesel technology.

Cambridge TeamMates were able to host Miss Nebraska this week as part of the Read Across America program. She read “Oh the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Suess to the elementary classes and talked about careers with the students. She also answered questions about being Miss Nebraska. It was a fun afternoon!
