February 23, 2026 A half inch of snow! That’s not enough to talk about the weather! Just keep the prayers going. But I do have to comment on a few effects of the weather.

Free Farm & Ranch Sucession Workshops offered March 11 in Curtis

Nebraska farm and ranch families are invited to attend a free educational workshop focused on succession and estate planning. Hosted by the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline in collaboration with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s Beginning Farmer Tax Credit and Negotiations Programs, Nebraska Extension, and the Nebraska Farmers Union Foundation, these workshops are designed to help producers prepare for the future of their operations. The Farm & Ranch Succession Workshop will take place Mar. 11 in Curtis from 1 pm to 5 pm at Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Welcome Center (610 E 6th Street).

Maywood finishes third at RPAC Speech Meet

CURTIS - Medicine Valley hosted the RPAC Speech Contest Wednesday and three area speakers won four total events while Maywood finished third as a team. Emma Peterka led Maywood with a first place finish in Humorous Prose.

Cambridge Academic Decathlon team competes at State

The Cambridge Academic Decathlon team returned to the State competition for the first time in 5 years. This group battled shorthanded against powerhouse teams from across the state. Colton Gross was the team’s leading point scorer. Other competing included Trev Burke, Jaysek Weiss, Sean Polly, Jensyn Weiss, Hailey Evans, Reid Huxoll and Briar Gunderson.

100 years ago-February 4, 1926 Work has started on the new transmission line into Edison. Horses and cattle are dying in this area from corn stalk disease The first of April work will begin on the new road project known in the Atlanta-Oxford project, which includes excavation of 73,000 cubic yards of twoinch gravel.
