September is National Preparedness Month, and Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) would like to remind everyone that this time of year it is important to review our emergency supplies and preparedness plans. It is also important to not neglect the preparedness skills that may be lifesaving in an emergency.

We got rain! Along with Saturday night’s rain came more than enough hail. But here on The Hill, at least it was small hail, and it came with .80 of rain. Then came the really beautiful rain Sunday afternoon. Another .50 came in the form of a nice slow rain. That put the soil in excellent condition for wheat drilling. It looks so good to see everything all washed off and clean.

Eustis-Farnam Students Honored.

Rylen Lanning of Lincoln (formerly of Frontier County) is part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s 299-member Cornhusker Marching Band, which will make its 2023 debut Sept. 16 at Memorial Stadium with pregame and halftime performances at Nebraska’s football home opener against Northern Illinois.

The Arapahoe City Council met on Monday, September 5th immediately following the CRA budget hearing and CRA meeting. The CRA approved the budget and property tax request during their meeting.

Tri Valley Health System is collaborating with South Central Nebraska Agency on Aging to offer a free welcome to Medicare educational event on Tuesday, September 19 from noon to 1 p.m. at Tri Valley Health System.

In total, nearly $70,000 was granted from the Community Hospital Health Foundation in support of home care services provided by Community Healthcare and Hospice in fiscal year 2023. In addition to $66,000 of direct operational support, funds were provided for patient-specific supplies, needs, and educational resources.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Central Community College has announced that its total college-wide enrollment for the fall 2023 semester is 6,636, which is up from 5,883 students at the start of the fall 2022 semester.
