Sons of The American Legion, Lee Ferguson Squadron 343 has been keeping busy. On May 29, members helped put up grave marker flags in the Edison Cemetery. On May 30, members assisted raising and lowering the “Avenue of Flags” in the Edison Cemetery. They were also a part of the honor guard for the Memorial Day programs at Edison, St. Mathew’s, and Holbrook Cemeteries. On June 4, members placed flags along a mile stretch of Highway 6 & 34 as part of the Sons of The American Legion national commander’s project Flying Flags For Heroes. This is a project to raise awareness of our veterans. It is our way of honoring the past, remembering the sacrifice, and respecting our military.

Holbrook Lions Club Auction...big day for Holbrook

The big day was Saturday for the successful Lions Club Consignment Sale in Holbrook. There hasn’t been a sale where everyone could gather for a couple of years due to the Covid 19 pandemic. It was nice to be outdoors with the sunshine and friends to hang out with...and maybe a bargain or two to be had. There were around 700 bidder numbers given out and six auctioneers going at the same time to help get through all of the items for sale. The sale ended around 6:00 p.m. { }

Furnas County GOP to meet

The Furnas County GOP is scheduled to meet Tuesday June 14th at the Ella Missing Center in Arapahoe. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

SUNSHINE VILLAGE

Sunshine Village residents had their potluck on Monday with 10 people present and one guest, April Wendland. It was hosted by Ilene Collins and Virginia Cookson. The program was on June and its beauty, Flag Day and Father’s Day. There were two birthdays celebrated this month, Sherry Saylor and April Wendland. Bingo will be June 18th with Ilene Collins as hostess. There will be no potluck in July so the next one will be August 1st.

Elwood Chamber of Commerce Yard of the Week goes to Craig and Jen Ward. Their new sign with their new sponsor isn’t quite ready yet but they will receive a $50 gift certificate to Natural Escapes of Cozad which they would like to donate to the 4-H Pollinator Garden in Elwood! Thank you for helping to keep Elwood beautiful and thank you to Natural Escapes for partnering with the Chamber to reward all Yard of the Week winners this summer! Yard of the Week will continue through Labor Day!
