SV Board approves new weight room

Body
The Southern Valley School board approved a revamp of the weight room 5 – 0 during their meeting on Monday, May 9. The board previously heard from coach Dexter Becker with a proposal to redo the weight room. The original bid for his “dream” weight room was over $80,000. The bid up for approval is $64,907.36 and includes the equipment and floor. Superintendent Bryce Jorgenson said they are not supposed to get billed until it is complete and he made clear it would not get paid for until after September with the new budget. He also said if they commit to this, they should not have to touch it for 20 years. AD Marquez said the kids are using the weight room. High School principal Jeff Linden said the kids will take some pride in it but it still takes the person getting them into the weight room. Marquez also said if they are going to do it, now is the time before things get any more expensive. Jorgenson said it is a lot of money and it could be looked at as curriculum for classes and non-curriculum 2022 Alum for athletes using it. The idea of fundraising was brought up also. Jorgenson thought they should use the money they raised for something else. Marquez also said they do the auction and plant sales to get away from all of the fundraising that had been done before.
