A Memorial Service for Alton Maaske will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Tom Schneider officiating. A private family inurnment will be held.

A time of fellowship and family greeting will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at the Golden Generational Center in Oxford, Nebraska.

Alton Eugene Maaske, 83 years of age, of rural Edison, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, surrounded by family at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Alton was born on January 13, 1941, on the family farm, northwest of Oxford, in Furnas County, the eldest of three children born to J. Eugene and Evelyn (Holste) Maaske.

He attended school at District #51 Hardscrabble Rural School in Furnas County and then attended Edison High School, graduating with the Class of 1958.

Following high school, Alton spent his lifetime engaged in farming with his dad and brother.

Alton was a past member of St. John Lutheran Church in Oxford, where he was baptized on February 2, 1941, and confirmed on May 16, 1954. Since 1976, he has been an active and faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Norton, Kansas.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents; four aunts and uncles; and one cousin.

Survivors include: his brother, David Maaske and wife, Susan of Oxford; sister, Anita Maaske of Edison; nephew, Eric Maaske and wife, Stephanie of Kearney; niece, Dr. Jill Maaske and husband, Dr. Marvin Sinsakul of Bethesda, Maryland; two great-nephews: Elliott Maaske and Samuel Maaske of Kearney; and one great-niece, Emilie Maaske of Kearney; along with cousins, and many friends.

There will not be a Memorial Book Signing, Visitation, or Viewing the evening prior to the service. The family has honored his wish for cremation.

A Memorial in Alton’s honor can be made to the family for future designation.
