A funeral service for Daniel B. “Dan” Schutz will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Westview Cemetery, Eustis, Nebraska.
Daniel “Dan” Byron Schutz, 59, of Atlanta, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by family and comforted by his wife, after facing health challenges with quiet strength and without complaint.
Born on March 20, 1966, in Cozad, Nebraska, to Byron and Patricia (Whisler) Schutz, Dan grew up in Elwood and on a farm north of Holbrook.
From an early age, Dan’s smile came easily. He loved entertaining and making others feel welcome, and he was always ready for the next adventure. His kindness, laughter, unwavering love for his family, and devoted faith in God defined his life. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1984. After working on a dairy farm in Colorado, he attended Kearney State College in 1986, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
Dan was united in marriage to Kari Hadan in August 1999, and to this union, one son, Wyatt, was born. The couple later divorced.
In 2010, Dan met Jennifer Byrd and began a relationship that would become a beautiful chapter in his life. They were married on June 12, 2014, and from this You are invited to participate in a
union, Dan gained a bonus daughter, Sabree. Jenn was truly the love of his life and faithfully cared for him in his final months.
Dan was incredibly proud of his children and all they have accomplished. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, camping, and attending or watching classic rock concerts. He was a devoted Nebraska Husker fan.
Dan worked in various positions, including Keen Elevator Company; Becton, Dickinson & Company; Ag Systems; and IES Electrical. Since October 2020, he worked for the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Dan is survived by his wife, Jennifer Schutz of Atlanta; his son, Wyatt Schutz and his significant other, Ella Jacobson of Kearney; his daughter, Sabree Rath and signifi cant other, Gabriel Garcia of Elwood; his brother, David (Shauna) Schutz of Culbertson, Nebraska; his sister, Peggy (Bob) Storz of Omaha, Nebraska; his brother, Randall (Coleen) Schutz of Elwood; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, cousins, and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Leann Bebber; and his brother-in-law, Rick Bebber.
Dan will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Dan’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
