ERNEST C. SCHULTZ
A Funeral Service for Ernest C. Schultz will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m., at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, Nebraska, with Military Honors provided by the Oxford American Legion Post #219, in conjunction with the United States Army National Guard Honors Team.
Ernest Cassious “Ernie” Schultz, 90 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, died on May 25, 2022, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Ernest was born on October 29, 1931, in Oxford, the youngest of three children, born to Harry Albert and Lura Hannah (Huff) Schultz. He received his education from a country school southwest of Oxford and in 1939 when his mother passed away, the family moved to the Mascot, Nebraska area, where he attended Mascot High School. He was a hard worker and enjoyed raising rabbits and a large garden, even up to his last days, he was eager to get out to his garden.
Ernie was inducted into the United States Army on May 15, 1952, at Omaha, Nebraska, and served during the Korean Conflict. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. On February 19, 1954, Ernie was honorably discharged and then served in the Army Reserves.
Ernie was united in marriage to Marian W. Fuller and to this union one daughter was born: Dawn. The couple made their home in Oxford, and Ernie worked for local elevators. In 1984, Marian preceded him in death.
Ernie found love again and made a new life with Debra Potter. He was a devoted caretaker and enjoyed caring for Debbie. Following his retirement from the elevator, Ernie worked for Republican Valley Feeders. In 2008, they moved to Holdrege and he owned and operated a lawn care business, up to the day of his passing.
Ernest was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; sister, Alvina Pape and her husband, Frank; brother, Alfred Schultz and his wife, Agatha; and one granddaughter, Brooke.
Ernest is survived by his significant other, Debbie Potter-Schultz of Alma, Nebraska; one daughter, Dawn Wright of Iowa; two grandchildren: Cody Wright of Iowa; and Kelsi Wright of Iowa; nephews: Laird Schultz of Alma; Bill Schultz and his wife, Micki of Orleans; and Stanley Pape and his wife, Pam of Lexington, Nebraska; nieces: Irene Kirschner and her husband, Darrel of Elm Creek, Nebraska; Lurabelle Humes and her husband, Ed Holmquest of Wiggins, Colorado; Alberta Kerst and her husband, Rick of Bartley, Nebraska; and Sheila Schultz-Doles and her husband, Carl Doles, Jr. of Orleans; Joane Olson and her husband, Larry of Holdrege; and Diane Ramsey and her husband, Norm of Loveland, Colorado; and Shirley Ehrke of Stamford, Nebraska; and extended family members.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Ernie’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
