{ OBITUARY } DEBRA S. YOUNG
Debra “Deb” Sue Young, age 67, of Cambridge, passed away at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital on January 28, 2023.
Deb was born in Laramie, WY on June 2, 1955, to Donald and Gwen (Sherard) Stine. She attended and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1973.
On February 16, 1974, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Phillip Young. To this union three children were born: Kraig, Suzanne, and Jessica. Phillip preceded her in death on February 14, 2014.
Deb did daycare in her home for several years. On May 1, 1990, she was hired by the City of Cambridge to work at the Butler Memorial Library. She retired from the library on June 30, 2017, after 27 years. Deb belonged to F.R.O.G of Cambridge, The Flossy Posse and The Naughty Grandmas. Deb served on the Board of the Cambridge Senior Center and was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
She enjoyed traveling with her friends to New York, the Bahamas, New Orleans, and many other locations. The thing that brought Deb the most joy was her family. She loved hosting them at the family cabin at Harry Strunk Lake near Cambridge and traveling to watch them do the things they loved. Deb seldom missed any of her children’s or grandchildren’s academic or sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Young, father: Don Stine; son: Kraig Young, granddaughter: Bexlee Lynn Grindle and father-inlaw: Gene Young.
Deb is survived by her two daughters: Suzanne and husband Tony Neels of Gothenburg; Jessica and husband Randy Grindle of Kearney; 12 grandchildren: Caden, Bryson and Quinn Neels; Lexis, Alex, Braxlyn, Haddix, and Jaxson Grindle; Austin, Abby, Ryan and Nathan Young; and one great-grandchild; mother: Gwen Stine of Cambridge; three brothers: Gary (Sarilyn) Stine of Loveland, CO; Bob Stine of San Diego, CA; Brian Stine of Lincoln; two sisters Sheryl Sides of Belgrade, MT; Renee (Brad) Holtze of Cambridge; daughter-in-law: Amanda Young of Kearney; mother-in-law: Pat Young of Lexington; brother-in-law: Lynn (Joyce) Young of Eustis, and sister-in-law: Lisa (Kurt) Gerken of Elwood; as well as special friends Roy and Kandra Kinne, Scott and Beth Nickerson, and Dave and Karen Custer all of Cambridge, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 10:30 AM with Father Ken Wehrs officiating. The casket will be closed at the church. Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge. Family will be present to greet friends at that time. Friends may leave online condolences at lockenourfh.com. In Lieu of Flowers family has requested memorials be given in Deb’s name to the Cambridge Senior Center.
