Joyce Ann Hilker, age 89, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, formerly of Cambridge, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was born on May 20, 1932 on a farm north of Arapahoe, Nebraska to Emil and Emma (Hilker) Stagemeyer.

The Rev. Steven Wayne Mues, 73, was born on July 27, 1948, in McCook, NE, grew up with his sister Beth on a farm just east of Arapahoe, NE, and died at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN on July 29, 2021. He graduated from Arapahoe High School, McCook Community College, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a BA Cum Laude. In 1973 he graduated from the Episcopal Divinity School in Philadelphia, PA, with a Master of Divinity degree Cum Honoribus and received the Faculty Award for academic excellence. In 1994 Steve completed his formal education receiving a Doctor of Ministry degree with honor from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.

Pat was born in Cambridge, Nebraska on September 25, 1931. At birth she was adopted by George and Ella Minnick. She grew up on the family farm until her parents moved them into town so Pat could attend the local junior high and high school. While at Cambridge High, Pat sang in the glee club. She also played trumpet in the school band. Pat graduated from high school in 1949. At home, while her father George played the fiddle, Pat accompanied him on the piano.

Dwight Eugene Gallatin, 89, a longtime farmer in the Danbury area, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska. He was born on December 2, 1931, to John and Helen (Hoffstrand) Gallatin at the family farm in Red Willow County, Nebraska.

Stanley “Stan” Kaps, 77 of Aurora, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Funeral service was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment followed at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Pleasanton, NE with military honors provided by the Pleasanton VFW Post #9481 and American Legion Post #321 in conjunction with Offutt Air Force Base Funeral Honors Team. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Duane John Helms (Born Dwaine John Holst) passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Crossroads Senior Living at the age of 92. Duane was born August 13, 1928 in Elwood, Nebraska. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1946 and continued to work on the family farm until he was inducted into the U. S. Army on September 10, 1951. Duane served in the Korean War and was released from active military service on June 19, 1953 and was transferred to ERC for an additional 8 years. He is the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, United States Service Medal and Overseas Bar. Duane moved to Denver with his family and took a job with Public Service and later retired from Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Plant as a Nuclear Plant Operator. He opened Jolly Jack’s Liquors and sold the business in 1985.
