July 1, 1930 – January 16, 2022 Florence Orvis Simmons of Mesa, Arizona and Estes Park, Colorado passed in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 16, 2022 in the presence of her son (Bruce Orvis) and her sister (Cheryl Moseley). Florence had long admired a poem by Linda Ellis called “The Dash Poem” (the “dash” refers to the mark between the date of birth and the date of death).

Florence Orvis Simmons, was born July 1, 1930 to Truman and Helen Moseley in Cambridge, NE of Mesa, AZ and Estes Park, CO passed in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 16, 2022 in the presence of her son, Bruce Orvis and her sister Cheryl Moseley. Florence had long admired a poem by Linda Ellis called “The Dash Poem” (the “dash” refers to the mark between the date of birth and date of death). Two stanzas of the poem are: He noted that first come the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all, was the dash between those years For that dash represents all the time that they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth. The “dash “ that represents Florence’s life covered a wide range of roles, activities, duties, and experiences a farmer’s wife living in Furnas County, played the piano for Sunday church services for Hendley Methodist Church, baked and decorated wedding and birthday cakes, cashier at Brodie’s Supermarket in Estes Park, CO and retail clerk.

Terry Leon Bowers, age 76, of Holbrook, Nebraska passed away on Sunday February 27, 2022, at his shop in Holbrook. He was born on August 14, 1945, to Ivan “Ike” and Maxine (Irelan) Bowers at Cambridge, Nebraska. Terry grew up in Holbrook and attended school and graduated from Holbrook High School with the class of 1963. He married Cindy Leiding on April 20, 1968 at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. To this union 3 boys were born: Gary, Brad, & Kelly. They made their home in Holbrook, while Terry worked for Furnas County Roads Department, Stickney’s in McCook, and then Gene Glanzer. In 1973, he started working for Holbrook Coop and continued there until retiring in 2010.

William Marion Gotchall, 79, of McCook, NE, passed away on February 19th, 2022, at his home in McCook, NE after a recent diagnosis of advanced cancer. William (Bill) was born on May 22, 1942, to the late Marion and Norma (Struthers) Gotchall. He was born in Grants Pass, Oregon, moved to the family farm north of Lebanon in 1947 and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1960.

Milton Junior Slama, age 82, of Beaver City, NE passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege, NE. He was born November 17, 1939 to Rudolph and Engeline (Langhorst) Slama in Beatrice, NE, the first of six children. Milton grew up with his family on a farm south of Friend and attended Wilber High School, graduating in 1957. After graduation Milt moved to Lincoln to work at Miller & Paine, until attending trade school in Milford, where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in Diesel Technology. Milton then worked in Ogallala and Lexington, later moving to Arapahoe where he met the love of his life, Terry, when he attended a dance at the Beaver City bank basement.
