Royce Rex Corder was welcomed into this world, Sunday, March 2, 1941 in Elwood to Rex and Ardis (Salisbury) Corder and entered his eternal life on Sunday, January 30, 2022 in Kearney. He was raised on the farm south of Elwood. He attended rural school and then attended and graduated from Elwood High School in 1959. After high school he attended and graduated from Hastings College in 1963. He played football in high school and college and after graduating college he became a teacher and coach serving in several Nebraska schools. Moved back to Elwood in 1981 where he worked at Morgan Insurance Agency/First National Bank then Pinnacle Bank for 26 years. On Wednesday, December 27, 1967 he married Sharon Phillips in Aurora. Royce served on multiple boards including in Elwood: School board, Care Home board, senior center board, and from the Chamber of Commerce help start the Old Fashioned Christmas. He also served on the Regional and General boards of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Board of Trustees of Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Family members that will always remember him are: his wife of over 54 years, Sharon, daughter: Brenda and husband Kendall Weyers, sons: Kirk and wife Karen Corder and Darin and Philippa Corder; grandsons, sister and brother-in-law: Barb and Lowell Gehring; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Richard and Sally Phillips along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends everywhere. Royce was extremely proud that he, his son, and grandson attended and played football for the Elwood Pirates. There will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, 10:30AM at Lexington Christian Church, Lexington with inurnment at Elwood Cemetery with gathering & reception at the Gosper County Senior Center in Elwood. Memorials to the family for future designation. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patrick McKane Kasson, 94, of North Platte, NE and formerly of Wilsonville and McCook, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his home in Linden Estates. He was born on December 31, 1927 in Wilsonville, NE, son of George and Ada (Cline) Kasson.

Marilyn J. Malleck age 79, formerly of Indianola, NE, passed away at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS on January 24, 2022. Rosary will be recited at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 7:00 PM with Father Greg Pawloski. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola. Interment will be in the St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Herrmann Jones Funeral from 10:00 AM till after rosary. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements.

Wheeler was held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Orleans Cemetery, in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Jason Bonnicksen officiating, with Military Honors provided by the Harold Morin American Legion Post #184 of Orleans in conjunction with the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

Patricia Ann Birt of Elwood passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Lexington Regional Health Center at the age of 79. Patricia was born May 5, 1942, at Maywood, Nebraska to Albert and Nancy (Votaw) Glaze. She graduated from Sutherland High School. Travel and work took her from Nebraska to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she met James Birt. They were united in marriage on June 15, 1968. The family made their home in such places as South Carolina, Pennsylvania, California and Illinois before returning to Elwood in 1984, they were married for 43 years. Patricia enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, cooking and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Peter; granddaughter, Molly Patricia Walther; and 2 brother in laws, Ralph Horne and Sid Handler. Survivors include 2 daughters, Mary (Scott) Rezendes of GA, and Leigh Tylka of SC; son, Jamie Birt of Elwood; 2 sisters, Connie Horne of VA, and Nancy Handler of SC; 6 grandchildren, Courtney (Kat) Leney, Christopher (Lori) Knott, Heather Knott, Jake Rezendes, Maggie Rezendes and Ben Rezendes; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Hazel Frances Cross, age 106, of Elwood, NE formerly of Arapahoe, NE passed away on Friday January 21, 2022, at the Elwood Care Center, Elwood, NE. She was born on December 19, 1915, to Thomas and Nora (Sanderson) Hays at the family farm north of Edison, NE. She was the fourth of seven children. Her siblings were Agnes Fisher, Christine McDonald, Helen Cross, Alice Watts, Tommy Hays and Patricia Dold.

Phyllis Jeanette Snider, formerly of Beaver City, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Good Samaritan Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska at the age of 88. Phyllis was born July 29, 1933 in a farmhouse near Orafino, Nebraska to Curtin and Lillian (Summers) Arnold. She attended school at Orafino and Cambridge, graduating with the class of 1951. In 1952, Phyllis married Ivan Snider at Grand Island, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with 6 children, Mary, Ramona ‘Monie’, Ivan ‘Ike’, Jody, Vickie, and Todd. Phyllis was a hard worker and took great pride in providing care to the livestock, chickens, and horses on the farm. One of her favorite past times was tending to her enormous garden, paying close attention to each and every plant with the utmost care. Phyllis’s family was her number one priority. She absolutely adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was so proud of each of them in their endeavors. When they came to visit her, there was always a home cooked meal, fresh baked goods, and jars of jelly and rhubarb juice. In her later years, Phyllis stayed in touch with her family by calling on birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. She will be missed dearly by all. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Todd Snider; son, Ivan ‘Ike’ Snider; daughter-in-law, Rhonda (Snider) Becker; grandson-in-law, Troy Tickle; 6 brothers; 2 sisters.
