Cambridge boys finish third at Pleasanton

PLEASANTON- The Cambridge boys basketball team battled in Pleasanton Holiday Tourney Monday and Tuesday and came away with a third-place finish. They begin Monday with a matchup against the host school, Pleasanton, and fell 59-44. It was a cold shooting night for the Trojans as they were just 31% from the field. But to start out the game, the Trojans looked good as they led 16-12 after the first quarter

From there the Bulldogs outscored Cambridge 47-28 as they used the three-point line to their advantage in the game. For Cambridge, they did have some solid performances as three players were in double-figures as Derek Trompke and Dahlton Wood had 12 and Carson Trompke had 11 points. Wood also had 10 rebounds for the Trojans. Off the bench, Zach Mcarthur had four assists.

The Trojans though bounced back nicely Tuesday evening as they took down Ravenna 46-44 in overtime. Cambridge found themselves down at halftime 19-14, and came out flat out of the half too, being outscored 12-9 and trailing 31-23 going into the final quarter.

In the final period, Cambridge outscored Ravenna 16-8 to force the overtime. It was a runner from Carson Trompke in the fourth period with 20 seconds remaining to tie it at 39 and extend the game. In the final 15 seconds of overtime, Dahlton Wood hit a step-through layup to put the Trojans up for good.

For the Trojans, Derek Trompke had 17 points and five three-pointers, Dahlton Wood posted another double-double with 15 points and 10 boards, and Carson Trompke added nine points.

The Trojans are now 6-2 will take a break until Tuesday, December 28th when they host Crawford for their Holiday Tournament at 4:15 P.M.
