SOUTHERN VALLEY The Southern Valley football team put up nearly 400 yards of offense and scored 34 points in Friday’s home tilt with Ravenna. The problem for the Eagles was Ravenna’s scoring explosion in the first half that put them in far too big a hole as Ravenna took a 70-34 victory at Southern Valley Friday.

Raiders defeat Bulls in five sets

CURTIS - A 2-0 lead that the Medicine Valley volleyball team had battled to achieve disappeared in a flash last week as Hi-Line rebounded with easy wins in the third and fourth to force a fifth. But the Raiders improved to 5-1 by winning the fifth set 15-8 to take a 29-27, 25-20, 13-25, 15-25, 15-8 victory over the Bulls, who fell to 1-1.

17 up, 17 down: Trojans volleyball remains unbeaten

CAMBRIDGE - The Cambridge volleyball team was pushed a bit last Thursday, but swept its way to two more triangular sweeps while remaining unbeaten on the season. Through Tuesday night, the Trojans had yet to drop a set this season.

ELM CREEK - After a 3-0 loss to Gothenburg last Tuesday dropped Southern Valley’s volleyball team to 1-2 thiss eason, the Eagles ripped off three-straight victories to improve to 4-2. Thursday, the Eagles dropped the opener to Cozad, 25-23, but rolled away in the next two sets before finishing off a 223-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-22 victory over the Haymakers.

Arapahoe completes comeback to get to 2-0

LOOMIS - After a dominant week one victory, the Arapahoe football team hit the road for a contest much more uncomfortable. In a road tilt that they had trailed much of the night and had only led for 38 seconds, the Warriors used special teams to hang in, then got a nine-yard touchdown run from Rafe Hill with 3:11 left to win it, 50-42, at Loomis.

BARTLEY - Coming off a 1-7 campaign, the Southwest football team has a great deal of experience built up for this season and was looking for a strong start in Thursday’s season opener. They made it one.

Hi-Line sweeps past Southern Valley in opener

ELWOOD - After opening their volleyball season with Southern Valley each year since the Hi-Line co-op formed, the Bulls had not been able to take down the Eagles, but they had been close, falling in five sets on multiple occassions. Last Thursday, the Bulls checked that accomplishment off the list. Hi-Line swept its way past Southern Valley 25-18, 25-15-25-17 to open the season with a victory for the first time.

Cambridge downs Southwest, starts 4-0

Statistical information for Southwest was not available at press time. Cambridge had opened the season with seven-straight set victories, claiming a 25-17, 25-11, 25-16 win at Wallace on Thursday before sweeping Wauneta-Palisade 25-8, 25-20 and Red Cloud 25-14, 25-4 earlier Saturday morning.
