Cambridge hoops each win one of four contests

PLEASANTON - With four games each in the past week, the Cambridge basketball teams each managed a single win. The Cambridge girls tookdown Loomis on the road last Tuesday, 46-38, to reach 4-1 this season before dropping a home game with Cozad Thursday, then losing both ends of the Pleasanton Holiday Tournament Monday and Tuesday.

Southern Valley hoops splits with Ravenna, Superior

SOUTHERN VALLEY The Southern Valley basketball teams each split games last week, falling on the road at Ravenna before returning home for victories over Superior. At Ravenna Thursday, the Southern Valley girls struggled in the middle quarters and fell into a 20-point hole that a big fourth quarter wasn’t enough to overcome in a 50-41 loss.

SOUTHERN VALLEY Both the Southern Valley boys and girls basketball teams had the better of it in their home contests with Cambridge last week as the Eagles rolled to victory in both matchups. In th eboys’ contest, Southern Valley ravaged the rim and clamped down on the Trojans in a 62-24 victroy.

SOUTHERN VALLEY - The Southern Valley wrestling team had two individual champions and finished eighth at its home invite Friday while visiting Arapahoe had three individual medaluists and took ninth. Both Braxton Hammond (120) and Cole Broeker (152) took individual titles for the Eagles, who finished with 69 team points for the tournament.

Boys: Warriors take fourth, Southwest finishes fifth

MCCOOK - Following a first round showdown between the Arapahoe and Southwest boys basketball teams, the two teams finished in consecutive order at the tournament as the Warriors dropped contests to Dundy County-Stratton and Hitchcock County to finish fourth and Southwest defeated Medicine Valley and Wauneta- Palisade to finish fifth.
