Mitchel Dee Cross passed away on June 10, 2023, from a heart attack in Montrose, CO, at the age of 60. Mitch was born on December 26, 1962, to Frank and Norma (Waggoner) Cross. The oldest of five children, they lived on a farm north of Edison, NE, in the Turkey Creek area. Mitch explored and hunted every inch of it.

Lula Mae “Lu” Six, age 87, of Hastings, Nebraska, formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village at Hastings, Nebraska. She was born on September 13, 1935 at Furnas County, Nebraska to Floyd and Mamie (King) Breinig.

June 20, 2023 – The boards of The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District and Dawson Public Power District plan to vote again on the documents required for their consolidation next month. The boards will each hold a special Board Meeting on July 17 at each districts’ respective headquarters.

Marrying a farm kid has shown me the immense amount of pride in being part of the Ag community. It is prevalent that the agricultural profession, while rewarding, is challenging. Running big dollar operations that are both physically and mentally demanding creates some serious strain on our mental health. Whether it’s a co-op employee spraying chemicals or spreading fertilizer for 70+ hours a week or a farmer during planting or harvest, the demand never truly stops.

In Nebraska, we have a lot to be proud of. Our women’s sports are no exception. The UNL Women’s Volleyball team has won five national championships and is one of UNL’s three profit-producing teams, along with football and men’s basketball. In August, women’s volleyball teams from across the state will be playing to a sold-out Memorial Stadium in the hopes of breaking the record for the most attended women’s sporting event in American history. The Creighton Women’s Basketball team has made the NCAA tournament four of the last six years. The UNO Women’s Softball team just made history by winning their first Summit League Championship and advancing to the NCAA Regional tournament.

There are a lot of odd duties that come with being a father of five, but one of the most fun for me is overseeing the family’s kangaroo court.
