Local Artist to teach painting classes in Holdrege

(Holdrege, Neb.) – Holdrege resident and professional artist Amy Lynn Stevenson will teach five classes in May and June at Central Community College-Holdrege. She will provide a relaxed environment for her students as she takes them through the step-by-step process for creating vibrant and dynamic layers on canvas.

The Annual Invention Convention hosted by Educational Service Unit #11 of Holdrege was held Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege. There were 100 inventions submitted from students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Participating schools included: Alma, Arapahoe, Axtell, Cambridge, Elwood, Holdrege, Legacy Christian, and Minden.
Avery Cappel and Gradyn Andrews won Overall Best 3rd Grade Invention with their “Unfreezable Pipe”.

Trojans sweep team titles at Med Valley Invite

CAMBRIDGE - The Cambridge boys and girls track and field teams pulled out team titles in tight races for the team race at the Medicine Valley Invite Thursday. Cambridge outscored Southwest 101-84 for the title in the girls competition while the Trojans bettered Arapahoe 87-83 in the boys’ race.
Southwest’s Asia Gallegos set a new school record in the 100 hurdles, finishing in first.

CURTIS - On a beautiful day at a beautiful course, four area golfers medaled at the Medicine Valley Invite at Arrowhead Meadows in Curtis Thursday. Southwest’s Houston Billeter led local competitors with a round of 81, taking third place and finishing two strokes back of individual champion, Tyson Essex of Loomis.

NACTA Ag Business Students Compete Well

April 21, 2025 National competitions like the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) are an excellent proving ground for effective teaching at the college level, and the students of Assistant Professor Reagan Cavanaugh, in her first year of teaching, showed very well. NACTA, founded in 1955, has members from two- and four-year colleges and highlights student achievement as a reflection of effective teaching practices.
