CAMBRIDGE - As the Cambridge Class of 1975 gathered for its 50th reunion this past weekend, one of the members - a then foreign exchange student from Antwerp, Belgium - strolled into one of his first places of employment.

A total of 350 cyclists on the 37st Annual Tour de Nebraska bicycle adventure will roll out of Curtis on Wednesday, June 25 and travel five days to Elwood, Cambridge and McCook. As always, it is important for motorists and cyclists to use extra caution on the road.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is pleased to announce a new service for families in the region: free capillary blood lead level testing for children ages 1 to 5 years old. This testing is now available by appointment at SWNPHD offices in McCook and Ogallala.

The Southwest Board of Education met for their June 16th meeting in the high school library. After calling the meeting to order at 7:30 pm, the board excused absent members John O’Dea and Derek Meyers. The board then approved Old Business items before moving onto necessary policy changes.

The 35th Annual Medicine Creek Fishing Tournament held in memory of John Owens was June 7th and 8th. Registration was at Mill Park in Curtis, NE. In the Set Line division-3 teams: First place went to Brohdy Wood and Tye Stanton 100 lbs. and Second place went to Stacie Owens and Connie Elson 90 lbs. 3 oz. Biggest Catfish-30 lbs. 1 oz. - Stacie-Connie, Total 279 lbs. 5 oz. caught. In the Rod & Reel Division-14 teams: First place went to Kaden & Kamreyn Bonini 86 lbs. Second place was Landyn & Easton Gilmore 57 lbs. 8 oz. Biggest Catfish-9 lbs. 10 oz. Dahlton Wood & Jacob Emslander. Total: lbs Caught 406 lbs. 12 oz.

As we approach Father’s Day, I’ve been reflecting on how my dad’s desire to serve Nebraskans shaped my own path in public service. Since childhood, I’ve seen up close the importance of sound, locally focused public policy.

Three years ago this week, the Supreme Court handed down one of the most important decisions in its history. The Dobbs decision restored the right of the American people to regulate abortion through the democratic process. The pro-life movement is about love, compassion, dignity, and respect. As Senator, I’m proud to fight for life.
