KEARNEY - Eleven local runners took part in Friday’s Class D State Cross Country Meet in Kearney. In the girls’ race, Cambridge’s Lydia McGowen led area runners with a 25th place finish, leading the Trojans to a 17th place finish as a team.

Southwest concludes unbeaten regular season, playoffs begin Friday

PAXTON - In a final tuneup before the Class D6 playoffs begin this week, the Southwest football team capped an 8-0 regular season with a 55-13 victory at Paxton Thursday night. With the regular season complete, Southwest claimed the third seed in the 16-team playoffs, which begin Friday.

However, our latest book, titled ‘Once Upon A Town’ caught me by surprise. The book tells the story of the North Platte Canteen during World War II.

BENKELMAN - The Southern Valley football team wrapped up its season in one of the more odd situations a high school football team has faced. Traveling to Benkelman for Thursday’s season finale, the Eagles contest against undefeated Dundy County-Stratton was delayed by a thunderstorm.

ARAPAHOE - With an outside chance at qualifying for the playoffs if they upset visiting North Platte St. Pat’s, the Arapahoe football team leaned on its defense for a first half lead, but couldn’t manage enough offense as the Irish pulled away in the second half for a 35-2 win, ending the Warriors’ season at 2-6.

ALMA - The Hi-Line football team hit jumped in the opening quarter of Friday’s contest at Alma and couldn’t recover in a 64-34 loss to the Cardinals that ended their season at 2-6. Alma scored three times in the first quarter and led 22-0 before the Bulls restored some order with a pair of secondquarter scores.
