Five Elwood students earned gold awards at the Agriscience Fair at the 2025 State FFA Convention. Liam Brell and Benjamin Morton were State Champions with a Gold rating in Animal Science. William Oaklund also claimed a State Championship in Plant Science for the secondstraight year. Klaire Pohl and Jurnee Harris received a gold and finished in third place in Environmental and Natural Resources.

LINCOLN - Amongst a number of accomplishments from local FFA members, Cambridge’s Jayden Ruf took one of the top honors at last weekend’s State FFA Convention in Lincoln. Ruf, a senior, was the recipient of the Nebraska State Star in Agricultural Production.

Arapahoe, Maywood choirs to perform at famed Carnegie Hall

NEW YORK - Next month students from Arapahoe and Maywood will take part in a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This performance will feature the Deja Blue Choir of Arapahoe (Valerie Leising, Director) and Maywood High School Choir (Whitney van Zyl, Director), performing along side the renowned New England Symphonic Ensemble (Preston Hawes, Artistic Director).

Edison awarded $480,000 to install back-up well

The Village of Edison has been awarded $480,000 through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for the construction of a critical back-up municipal water well. As both the grant writer and administrator for this 2024 Planning and Public Works opportunity, West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) is committed to ensuring these funds are efficiently utilized to strengthen Edison’s water infrastructure.

Nebraska Extension Addressing Drought Prep for Cattle Producers

On going drought conditions will require delayed turnout on pasture, reduced stocking rates or alternative sources of feed for cattle this summer. To provide producers with information on options for managing and mitigating the impacts of drought, Nebraska Extension will offer an evening webinar program on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Cambridge City Council reports new street sweeper came in

Cambridge City Council met in a regular meeting on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. After approving the Consent Agenda, Utilities Supervisor Mike Tomlin reported the new street sweeper came in last week. He said he has also contacted KW Tree Services to check on the timeline for finishing their contract. He also reported they are trying to kill moles at the park and that Chance Westatd started work at the park today.
