Vaccines for Children Public Clinics in March

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) will be offering Vaccines for Children at public clinics in March. Anyone two months of age and older are invited to get their vaccinations. Flu shots will still be available for anyone 6 months of age and older. Flu (influenza) is circulating at high levels throughout the state and the health district. It is not too late to get a flu shot; it will still provide protection for the rest of the flu season.

This February for Heart Health Month, Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is encouraging everyone to learn how to care for their heart and prevent heart disease. Heart disease is one of the top two causes of death in southwest Nebraska and is the leading cause of death in the United States.

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy has sent invitations to schools across the state, seeking students’ entries for the 2026 “Nebraska: Don’t Waste It!” environmental calendar. The contest is open to all Nebraska students from grades K through 12, and the submission deadline is May 1, 2025.

Congratulations to Abby Helms, Lilly Helms, Brodie Heying, Kahlia Killough, and Kylee Odell on earning 6th place intermediate team honors at the 2025 Cattlemen’s Livestock Judging Contest! During this contest youth judged 12 beef classes, answered questions, and defended their placings in the reasons room. Tigh Renken, served as their coach and lead the teams.

Nebraska LEAD 43 Fellows gain national agricultural and policy insights

LINCOLN, Neb. – Members of Nebraska LEAD Program’s Class 43 recently embarked on a 10-day National Study/Travel Seminar, gaining firsthand exposure to national and regional agricultural systems, policymaking and advocacy. The seminar, held February 5-14, took Fellows to Kansas City, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Moline, IL, for a series of immersive experiences.
