The Holbrook Class of 1979 met Friday night, May 24th at Kearney at Kristi (Hockemeier) Jochum’s house for a gathering, and attended the all school class reunion on Saturday evening, May 25th in Holbrook. HASTINGS, Nebraska (May 30, 2024) – Hastings College has announced the Dean’s List for its spring 2024 semester. For the semester, 351 students from 20 states and 11 countries were named to the Dean’s List.

A total of 104 students qualified for the President’s List during the 2024 spring semester at Mid-Plains Community College. To make the list, each student had to complete 12 or more applicable credit hours in college-level courses and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.9 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

A total of 135 students qualified for the Mid-Plains Community College Dean’s List during the 2024 spring semester. To make the list, students had to complete 12 or more applicable credit hours of college-level courses and maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 – 3.89 on a 4.0 scale.

Harlan County 4-H’ers, ages 5-12, met in Orleans on Sunday, June 2, to test their bicycle knowledge and skills. Youth ages 8-12 started the contest off with a Bicycle Safety Quiz. With events like musical tires, slalom, and obstacle course, youth could maneuver and control themselves and their bikes to weave, cross over, and ride around without stepping off their bike to see who could complete the course the fastest. Youth were also challenged by seeing who could complete the fastest race in a head-to-head competition and, finally, the slowest racer in the tortoise race. As results were tallied, the Harlan County 4-H Council provided root beer floats for everyone to enjoy. Trophies were sponsored by Alma Chiropractic, Main Street Variety, and Foster Creek Farms, and event medals were sponsored by the Alma Rotary Club. This day would not have been possible without our wonderful volunteers and 4-H Council members who helped run events!

In late April, Chadron State College students in Printmaking I (ART 225) led a two-day activity with 17 seventh graders in CSC alumna Whitney Tewahade’s art class at the Chadron Middle School. CSC Art Professor Laura Bentz said the collaboration allowed the younger students to experience the process of silk screen printing, interact with college students, and begin thinking about the possibility of attending college.

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney announced students who earned a place on the dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester. Students who are on the dean’s list must have completed 12 credit hours or more of classes with a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale.

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. Council Member Nora McGowen was absent from the meeting. After the Pledge of Allegiance and announcement of the open meetings law posted, the Council approved the Consent Agenda items which included the approval of the City Council Meeting Minutes from May 20, 2024, the approval of the claims report, the Library Board Minutes from May 14, 2024, and the Museum Board Minutes from May 15, 2024.
