The Furnas County Republicans will be meeting at the Beaver City Community Building on Monday October 9th at 7:00 p.m. Registered Republican from Furnas and surrounding counties are invited to attend.

Lebanon’s 150th celebration is in the history book. It was well attended, everyone had plenty to eat and all had a good time. The activities of the day that were held in the park went well. It was especially interesting to visit with cooper James Gaster as he made and displayed his buckets and blacksmith Dale Forge as he brought iron into unique shapes and figures.

Oxford Quilt Group held a ‘Bed-Turning’

The Oxford Quilt Group hosted a ‘Bed Turning’ on the evening of Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Oxford Evangelical Free Church. A nice crowd of around forty were in attendance to view the handiwork. The ten members of the group each had five quilts that were shown.

Medicine Valley Chapter attend FCCLA Fall Leadership Workshop in Kearney

Kearney, Nebraska- 10 students from the Medicine Valley Chapter recently attended the Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America Fall Leadership Workshop in Kearney. This annual event was held on Monday, September 18, 2023, with nearly 600 student members, chapter advisers, and guests from over 70 chapters statewide attending the conference.

Rough weather in Danbury on Thursday night with large hail, tornado warnings and wind that brought a lot of rain in some areas. (Above) Some things had to be moved out of the church basement so they could clean the carpets from water damage. A facebook photo shows the size of a hail stone and the broken window shows how the hail made some damage in the area.

Remembering the Gold Star Mothers

The Oxford American Legion Auxiliary held a Gold Star Mother’s Day open house on Sunday, September 24 at the Golden Generation/Hilltop Event Center in Oxford. They served Cake, punch, mints and nuts. On display was a large photo frame honoring all the Gold Star Mother’s in the Oxford Cemetery and a book with their descriptions. This is on permanent display in the Museum of Oxford. Also on display were the plaques that will be placed at all of the Gold Star Mother’s graves. These will be placed around next Memorial Day. The Auxiliary raised funds to purchase the plaques during the last year. Pictured are Auxiliary president Geri Amen and plaque project organizer Marty Mitchell.

CURTIS – A large gathering of history lovers enjoyed hearing the presentation of author Jeff Barnes at the Curtis Community Building on Sunday, September 24, 2003. His program was entitled “’Mad’ Queen of the Prairies – the Frenzied First Years of Nebraska Territory 1854-1859” and was sponsored by the Frontier County Historical Society and Humanities Nebraska.
