75 years later, a look back at the construction of the Medicine Creek Dam

Body
While tedious, the dam work was dangerous, and a man died in the trench. “Junior Cross and I were sitting on my tractor,” recalled Loyd, who witnessed the accident. “We were watching Jim Baker, the first electrician out there. Jim dug a hole and set a light pole in, but instead of tamping it down he just turned and started climbing the pole. He was at the top when the pole twisted and fell across his chest. By the time we got to him, he was awake and in good spirits. They took him to the hospital, but he died before he got there… He was twenty-one years old.”
