Meeting held to discuss Crystal Theater Renovations

Arapahoe hosted a meeting at the Crystal Theater on Sunday, July 30 to hear public opinions on the building’s renovation plans. During the meeting, Jacob Sertich, a managing principal, and Caitlyn Snyder, a project architect, of Wilkins ADP presented their goals in regards to improving the theater as well as a potential new floorplan.

CAMAS merges Frontier County Enterprise with Valley Voice

CAMBRIDGE - With a merger this week, both of CAMAS Publishing’s weekly newspapers in southwest Nebraska will now operate under one roof and one masthead. Publisher Cody Gerlach announced that the Frontier County Enterprise and the Valley Voice would merge into one newspaper effective the August 3 issue.

Snyder farm presented Aksarben Pioneer Award

On the final night of the fair, the Frontier County Fair Board recognized one Frontier County farming family with a plaque to celebrate their decades of dedication and continuous farm ownership. Gary Snyder, on behalf of the Snyder family farm, received the Aksarben Pioneer Farm Family Award, which recognizes the ownership of at least 40 acres of farmland held by the same family for 100 years.

Arapahoe Council approves Economic Development Contract

The Arapahoe City Council approved a new Economic Development contract with Bobbi Pettit and 5 Rule during their meeting on July 25th. The new contract has an increase in hours from 20 hours to 26 hours per month. The new contract will be $31,200 per year (the old contract was $20,000 per year). Pettit told the board she feels like they have been working well and have been strategic with their time. She also doesn’t want them to stop the progress made and continue on with new projects. Mayor Jon Koller reminded the board of when they were looking at hiring a full time economic developer and feels they are still ahead of what that would have cost. He also said they have seen some success, but economic development is hard to gauge. The council also approved contributing a total of $6500 to Try-Valley Transportation. The previous contribution had been $4380 per year. This total will include the ACE contribution. Council heard from Joyce Deaver on the numbers of the service and the increases in costs and the number of rides they provide. Their budget is every two years and went from $182,000 to $385,000. The number of rides went from 940 to 1600 in two years.

USDA reminds producers of Livestock Indemnity Program

Beaver City, Nebraska, July 31, 2023 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dillon Breinig in Furnas County today announced that producers who suffered livestock losses due to recent natural disasters, including extreme heat, may be eligible for the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP).

Vaccines for Children Public Clinics

The summer has flown by, and schools and colleges will be starting up again soon. Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) will be offering Vaccines for Children at public clinics in August. Now is the perfect time to get your child up to date on shots that they will need to start school. Anyone two months of age and older are invited to get their vaccinations.

Brown receives CCC Diploma

(Hastings, Neb.) – Central Community College-Hastings honored about 360 graduate candidates May 5 during its 56th annual commencement ceremony. Forty-five of the degree candidates achieved an accumulative gradepoint average of 3.75 or higher during their college career and graduated with honors.
