100 Years Ago November 16, 1922 About 2:20 Saturday morning, Mrs. Frees, who rooms across the street, discovered fire in the Roepke Pool Hall. The fire boys responded quickly and soon had it extinguished.

25 Years Ago November 6, 1997 Harlan County Sheriff Chris Becker reports that the death of a hunter, William Wheeler, 56, of Bird Creek, Alaska, three miles south and four miles west of Stamford, was attributed to a heart attack.

The Arapahoe City Council held a brief meeting on Tuesday, November 1. Chris Middagh called the 7:30 p.m.

The Main Area Campground at Johnson Lake State Recreation Area will be closed Nov. 2 until May 2023 for an electrical upgrade. All 82 sites at the Main Area Campground will be upgraded to 50/30/20 amp service. The increase in electrical capacity in each campsite will serve a broader range of visitor needs. It also will provide adequate levels of power to larger, more modern RVs and campers.

ALLIANCE – 13 young ladies from across Nebraska will be competing in the 2023 Best of the West pageant in Alliance on Saturday, November 12TH at 6PM at the Alliance Performing Arts Center in Alliance, Nebraska. The Best of the West pageant is a combination of the Miss Alliance and Miss Chadron pageants traditionally held separately. Titles awarded that evening will include Miss Alliance 2023, Miss Alliance’s Outstanding Teen 2023, Miss Chadron’s Outstanding Teen 2023, and Miss Panhandle’s Outstanding Teen 2023. Along with scholarships, crowns and prizes, the winners will compete for the title of Miss Nebraska and Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen in North Platte in June, 2023. The eight contestants vying for the Outstanding Teen titles are: Madisen Meek, the daughter of Jennifer and Brett Cullan and David Meek of Hemingford; Emma-Claire Fritz, the daughter of Myra Katherine Hale, Michael Pruss, and Greg Fritz of Fremont; Addison Dauel, daughter of Aaron and Brenda Dauel of Gretna; Arielle Lawrence, granddaughter of Julie and Jeff Lawrence; Jordan Wagner, daughter of Brand and Aleece Wagner of Bridgeport; Addison Peck; daughter of Jeffrey and Bridget Peck of Scottsbluff; Boston Pettera, daughter of Tanner and Jolene Pettera of North Platte; and Grace Tanner, the daughter of Beth Tanner of North Platte.
