SV students headed to American Legion Auxiliary Girls State

Keira Wasenius, Oxford; Camden Wright, Stamford, Shae Mitchell, Edison; and Brianna Jorgenson, Orleans have been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State June 5-11, 2022 on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Wasenius was chosen by the Oxford Legion Auxiliary. Wright and Mitchell were chosen by the Edison Legion. Jorgenson was chosen by Orleans Legion. They will study local, county and state government processes in this nonpartisan political learning experience. Every spring, the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program provides approximately 25,000 young women with a hands-on educational opportunity designed to instruct tomorrow’s leaders the privileges and duties of responsible citizenship.

Mad Science at Oxford Library

Elena Stout – Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development The Oxford Public Library hosted 4 sessions of Mad Science: an afterschool STEM workshop that encourages participants to explore careers and picture themselves as real scientists! The final session of Mad Science this spring was called Magic Milk. Participants investigated components of milk with a chemistry experiment, then got to make their own ice cream in a bag.

National Day of Prayer in Beaver City

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". Those wanting to take part in Beaver City may go to the Gazebo Park at 7:30 am on Thursday, May 5.

4-H volunteers receive statelevel awards

Twenty-two adult volunteers, one 4-H member, and a family of volunteers are being recognized with Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Awards. Eleven individuals are receiving Emerging Adult Volunteer Awards.

The good news is that there is no news. But for the manpower and divine intervention, the area of Lebanon and west were spared from the fire. Lebanon residents were encouraged to evacuate Friday evening, but were never under mandatory evacuation.

UNMC holds White Coat Ceremony for new Accelerated BSN students

The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing recently held Nightingale White Coat Ceremonies to recognize new students in its Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Students, who began class in January, are enrolled in the one-year program at one of the college’s nursing divisions in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk.
