Beaver City prohibits feeding wild animals

During the regular city council meeting on October 18, 2021, an ordinance that would prohibit the feeding of wild animals and feral cats, was read for a third time before being passed unanimously. Ordinance 409 amends the Public Nuisance Prohibitions listed in the city’s charter to read: “Providing food for dogs, cats, feral cats, deer, geese, ducks, racoons, fowl or other wild animals or wildlife by setting food out on any public property or within a 100-yard radius of any private residence or public right-of-way not owned by that person.” Moiya Stubbs, who has been at odds with neighbors for feeding dozens of feral cats at two locations, expressed disappointment with the language of the ordinance.

It has taken years, but the Village of Holbrook succeeded in tearing down seven buildings on the west side of Center Street. The fi ve buildings to the south have been abandoned for twenty-plus years with the roofs falling in and the fl oors caved away, making any salvage impossible.

Local businessman running for state legislature

ARAPAHOE – Local businessman and personal trainer Tyler Cappel announced on August 25 that he would be seeking the 44th District Legislative seat in 2022. Sen. Dan Hughes of Venango, who was first elected to the chamber in 2014 and then re-elected in 2018, is prohibited from seeking a third consecutive term under Nebraska’s current two term-limit law.

BEAVER CITY - An Oxford man convicted of 13 felonies, including sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking of a minor, is scheduled to be sentenced in Furnas County District Court Thursday before Judge James Doyle.

It is “The 4Ever Fab 50’s” featuring great music from the 50’s that is sure to get the audience tapping toes and singing along (in their heads) to well-known lyrics and upbeat, harmonious tunes.

100 Years Ago October 13, 1921 Sewer diggers unearthed a chest of five and ten dollar counterfeit gold pieces at Arapahoe. It was thought to be a part of the “loot” of a counterfeit ring that operated during 1881-1885.
FLAG SQUAD PROJECT - These girls were among many youths earning funds for different activities by selling food at the 2001 Applefest in Orleans last weekend. Show selling Tacos in a Bag were, l to r: Jackie Carpenter, Vanessa Robbins, Danielle Einspahr and Janelle Schoen. Funds raised were to help with summer camps and new flag squad equipment. This is the third year the Southern Valley members have participated at Applefest.
