Sen. Hughes previews legislative session

LINCOLN - State Senator Dan Hughes is going to be a busy man for the next two years. When the 107th Legislature convened on January 6, the Venango farmer ran unopposed for the chair of the Executive Board—a position second only to the Speaker. Hughes, who has most recently chaired the Natural Resources Committee, decided to seek the position when Sen. Mike Hilgers (Dist. 21), decided to vacate his post as Exec Board chair to become Speaker of the Legislature.

Individualized Leadership Development Program Offered in Arapahoe

As a final requirement of her Master’s Degree in Leadership Samantha Guenther will be hosting a Leadership Development Program in Arapahoe on January 20 and 27 from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Council Room of the Ella Missing Community Center (EMCC). This program is designed to provide a leadership development experience in Arapahoe that fosters intentional leadership knowledge and behaviors.

ATC Communications Completes Installation in Southeast Arapahoe

Earlier this year, Governor Pete Ricketts awarded more than $29.5 million in funding under the Remote Access Rural Broadband Grant program, administered by the CARES ACT funding from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED). Of that, $512,000 was allocated to support ATC Communications in Arapahoe.

Phelps and Gosper 4-H Holiday Community Scavenger Hunt

The Phelps and Gosper 4-H provided community scavenger hunts earlier in December. The 4-H holiday community scavenger hunt allowed families to jump in a vehicle and complete “missions” for the game! The hunt utilized the free “GooseChase” app for this activity with up to 23 missions for the families to complete. To add to the fun of the hunt, the app featured a live feed to see other teams competing all while learning more about local businesses and exploring the community!

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign results in 28 traffic related contacts

The Furnas County Sheriffs Office participated in the National Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign that ran from December 18, 2020 to January 1, 2021. During this time, three deputies worked a total of 64 hours of overtime traffic enforcement in addition to their regularly scheduled hours.The Sheriffs Office will be reimbursed for $1,889.22 of overtime wages from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety that was accrued through the period of overtime enforcement.

The Gosper County Senior Center is NOT open for congregate meals for the remainder of the month of December. The Gosper County Senior Center will continue to serve meals for delivery or pick-up. We are following the guidelines that WCNAAA has suggested for our Center. If you would like to have a meal to pick up or have a meal delivered please call the Senior Center at 785-250o.
