Beaver City Council approves conditional use permit for cow/calf operation

BEAVER CITY — The Regular City Council meeting was called to order on January 18, 2021 by Mayor Leighton Schmidt with all six city council members present. Three City staff were in attendance: Teresa Youngquist (City Clerk), Jackie Mayberry (Deputy Clerk), and Grant Jurgensen (Utility Superintendent). Visitors present were: Ben Ellis (Lion’s Club), Kale Shafer (Beaver City Volunteer Fire Department), Angie Woodring (Beaver City Manor Administrator), Laura Mclnturf and Isaac Watson (Cow/Calf Operation), and Guyla Mills (Valley Voice).

There was definitely news in The Valley this week! But certainly not the kind of news we like to hear. As if the winds weren’t bad enough Thursday, they caused an electric wire to break and ignite a fire.

Wild fire burns Thursday night between Bartley, Lebanon

On Thursday, January 14 at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Bartley fire department was paged to Road 710 six miles south of Bartley. A power line from a shop building had broken in the wind, arc’d and started corn stubble and pasture ground on fire. Combined with high winds of over 5o mph, mutual aid was called in from Indianola, Cambridge, Red Willow Western, Wilsonville, Beaver City and Beaver Valley.

CAMBRIDGE - It’s a girl! In the 61st year of the Valley Voice’s New Year’s Baby Contest, Emma Drew Parker was born at Tri Valley Health System’s Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 2021 on January 12 at 7:41 a.m. to Kyle and Kayela Parker of McCook. Emma weighed 6 lbs 13 oz and was 20 inches tall. She was delivered by Dr. Lennie Deaver.

Arapahoe hires Gegg as interim superintendent

ARAPAHOE - After interviewing two different interim superintendent candidates at a special meeting Monday, the Arapahoe Board of Education offered a one-year contract to Brian Gegg, who most recently served as the superintendent at Shelton Public Schools from 2016 until last June.

Southern Valley Board holds discussion on drug policy

The Southern Valley Board of Education met on Monday in the high school cafeteria. All board members and administration were present as well as many staff and public. Those attending were there to discuss the drug and alcohol policy currently in use at Southern Valley.

10 years ago Students in the third grade at Arapahoe Public Schools will begin Newspaper In Educations project with the Arapahoe Public Mirror. The students will answer a newspaper quiz once a month and also receive the Arapahoe Public Mirror each week.
