Gratefully, we don’t have the sort of news to talk about this week that we had last week. It still gives me goosebumps when I see where that fire burned and lots more places it could have burned. Thanks again to all the volunteers.

With three separate snows in a 72-hour span, the region was blanketed with up to nine inches of white precipitation early this week, leaving an opportunity for Cambridge children and their pets to build snowmen for residents at the Cambridge Assisted Living (pictured above) and forcing Al Schievelbein of Arapahoe as well as City crews to remove snow from streets and walkways (pictured below). Schools and some businesses were closed Monday and Tuesday because of the storm.

The Elwood YELP (Youth Engaged in Leading People) class, a partnership between the Elwood Area Foundation and Elwood School, is currently putting together care packages for essential workers and those in need. Baskets for those in need will include personal hygiene products like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine hygiene products, lip balm, face masks, small (new) toys, coloring books and small boxes of crayons; essential worker packages will include fuzzy socks, chocolates or other small treats, lip balm, etc. The goal is to make 8o baskets to distribute to the Parent-Child Center and to local essential workers. If anyone would like to help, donations are being accepted at the Elwood Hometown Cooperative Market and the Courthouse. Monetary donations to help purchase items may be brought to the Elwood Area Foundation Office.

LINCOLN-- Nebraska Sen. Tom Brandt of Beatrice introduced a bill in the Nebraska Legislature on Jan. 14 that would establish farm-to-school programs statewide as part of the Nebraska Department of Education.
