Last week, while writing a story about the Furnas Council 2 District Commissioner race between incumbent Dennis R. Tegtman and William R. (Billy) Frey, this writer transposed the last two letters of Mr. Frey’s name. The Furnas County Clerk’s Office supplied the correct spelling of the candidate, so this writer is 100% at fault for the error. On behalf of myself and Cody Gerlach, the owner/publisher of the Valley Voice, we offer our sincere apology to Mr. Frey and offer a retraction to the misspelling.

ARAPAHOE - Over 100 people attended a disaster assistance workshop on April 19, 2022 at the Ella Missing Community Center in Arapahoe. The event that was hosted by the USDA Service Centers in Dawson/Gosper and Furnas Counties was intended for farmers, ranchers and rural landowners that have been impacted by the recent wildfire in Gosper and Furnas Counties.

Just this past week, Burnell Shifflet was in the field just east of Cambridge on the north side of the highway when the oddest thing happened. A young man, small in stature and dressed in what appeared to be a flight suit and helmet, came running through the field toward him.

A special insert was prepared for this week’s paper that documents the extreme struggle and daunting aftermath of the 739 Fire that began on April 7 and still smolders over parts of 35,000 burned acres in Gosper and Furnas counties today.
