HAYES CENTER - The Southwest boys basketball team dropped its first two games of the season, facing off against two of the top teams in the RPAC. Thursday, the Roughriders hung around for a while, but Medicine Valley blew the game open late in the second quarter and rolled to a 61-37 victory.

Thursday, the Roughriders struggled offensively to shake free from visiting Medicine Valley until a 15-point fourth quarter blew open a 43-24 win.

Facing quality competition and four games in six days, the Southern Valley boys basketball team dropped its first three games of the season, falling to Minden 62-19 on Thursday before dropping a 44-22 decision to Elm Creek on Friday. The Eagles also fell to Gothenburg Monday, 66-35.

MULLEN - The Southwest wrestling team took fourth place at the 17-team Mullen Bronco Invite. The Roughriders had four medalists, including champions Carter Van Pelt and Jacob Kerns, scoring 85 points at the meet.
