CAMBRIDGE - Second-half explosions have proven costly for the Cambridge boys basketball team last week as the Trojans saw both Cozad and Loomis blow open competitive games that resulted in losses. Against Cozad, the Trojans battled throughout the first two quarters, hustling for rebounds and knocking down timely shots.

SUMNER - The Hi-Line boys basketball team battled through a trio of games last week, but came up short in each as it saw its record fall to 0-7 this young season. The Bulls struggled in the middle quarters of a 64-43 loss to Bertrand on Tuesday, then were overwhelmed early in a first round matchup at the Sumner-EddyvilleMiller Tournament Friday against the Mustangs.

BARTLEY - The Arapahoe girls basketball team dropped a pair of contests last week as their comeback fell short against WilcoxHildreth and an second-half offensive drought was costly at Southwest. Against the Falcons, Arapahoe trailed 22-14 at the half, then saw WilcoxHildreth surge in front by double-digits with a dominant third quarter.

The Southwest Roughriders dominated at the South Loup invite on Friday, Dec. 18, hosted at Arnold earning 120.5 total points for the firstplace finish. Anselmo-Merna followed with 104 points and Palmer with 82.5 points for second and third, respectively.

Eagles rise up for fifth and sixth wins of season

Southern Valley boys swept this week’s games versus the Ravenna Bluejays and the Superior Wildcats with a 45-36 win and a 56-44 win respectively. On Thursday against the Bluejays, Southern Valley was able to secure a small lead of 19-14 at the end of the first quarter with the help of Senior Colton Burgeson, who knocked down three 3-pointers.

Local teams compete at Jorgensen Invite

CAMBRIDGE - Southwest took second at the Fran Jorgensen Invite hosted at Cambridge Saturday, Dec. 19. As a team the Roughriders earned 128 points behind leader Atwood-Rawlins County with 140. Arapahoe finished fourth and Cambridge 14th with 103 and 39 points, respectively.

NSAA names local students to Academic All-State Honor

The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) is pleased to announce the student recipients of the Fall 2020-21 Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association (NCPA) Academic All-State Awards. Since 2006 this NSAA Award Program has recognized students who meet the criteria for nomination by their school in the season of their activity.
