Southwest runs Duel Record to 5-0

LOOMIS - The Southwest wrestling team started its season 3-0 with duel victories over Arapahoe, Cambridge and Loomis/Bertrand Thursday at Loomis. The Roughriders defeated the Warriors 54-24, earning five pins while also taking four forfeits.
Southwest’s Garrett Latimer helped the Roughriders to three duel victories on opening night.

Southern Valley splits with Minden, Elm Creek

The Southern Valley boys basketball team opened their season with a win against Minden at home on Thursday 46-39. With only two returning starters suiting up, freshman Kamden Bose got the start and was high scorer with 13 points going 3 for 4 from the 3-point line. Carter Bose posted a double-double scoring 12 and rebounding 10. Clayton Berry scored Colton Burgeson scored 6, Isaak McPhillamy and Mitchel Wilson each added 2 points. High scorer for Minden was Ben Edgecombe with 14.

ELWOOD - The Arapahoe wrestling team finished fifth while Hi-Line took ninth and Cambridge finished nth at the 14-team Hi-Line Invite n Friday. Arapahoe had a pair of champions in 285-pound Levi Kerner and 170-pound Jordan Smith.

BARTLEY - The Southwest wrestling team finished runner-up and the Southern valley Eagles were third at the nine-team Roughrider Invite held Friday afternoon in Bartley. Southwest had 10 medalists had 10 medalists at the the meet, including Matt Van Pelt, a champion at 152, and Cole Downey, the champion at 195.

OVERTON - A rough first half, particularly in the second quarter, sabotaged any chance for the Arapahoe girls basketball team in their season-opening game at Overton Thursday. The Eagles outscored the Warriors 16-2 in the second quarter to blow open a 28-8 lead at halftime.

‘Riders fall to Raiders, Wolves

The Southwest Boys’ Roughriders basketball team opened its season with road game against Medicine Valley on Thursday, Dec. 3. The Raiders outscored the Roughriders, 66-34. The Roughriders then traveled to Maywood/Hayes Center for a game Saturday, Dec. 5. The Roughriders were again outscored, 62-26, to start the season 0-2.

The Southern Valley Lady Eagles started the season 1-1 after splitting games against Minden and Elm Creek in their first week of the season. Thursday they defeated the Whippets at home 49-44. Freshman Ann Bose recorded a double-double leading the team in scoring with 23 points and rebounding 12. Kynlee Marquez contributed 14, Brianna Quinn scored 6, Krista Best added 4 and Jessica Lambert added 2. Quinn also grabbed 6 rebounds.
