The Cambridge basketball teams saw the fourth quarter crush their hopes of victory at Alma Friday as the girls dropped a 53-33 defeat to the Cardinals and the boys lost the lead late and fell 49-41. Alma scored the first 15 points of the boys contest and looked to bury the Trojans early, but Cambridge rallied within 21-13 at halftime and exploded with six threes and 22 points in the third to take the lead.

Both the boys and girls Maywood-Hayes Center basketball teams dropped a tough challenge at Ogallala on Thursday before bouncing back with a resounding win against Wauneta-Palsiade on Friday. The girls challenged a strong Indians team throughout the first half on Thursday, but were undone by an 18-0 third quarter for Ogallala in a 54-42 loss.

The Arapahoe hoops teams split contest at Bertrand Friday with the girls winning 44-29 to close out the regular season while the boys fell 70-43. The girls led throughout, though they struggled to shake the Vikings until late when they outscored Bertrand 27-18 after halftime.

The Medicine Valley girls basketball team ended its regular season with back-toback losses to Maxwell and Brady last week. The Raiders had a strong night rebounding last Thursday at Maxwell.

The Medicine Valley boys basketball team got a good look at the upcoming post season with wins over D2-8 sub-district opponents Maxwell and Brady last week. The Raiders are still in the driver’s seat of the sub-district with one game remaining on their regular season schedule.

BENKELMAN - The Southern Valley girls closed out the regular season with a hard-fought victory over Dundy County-Stratton Friday while the boys fell to the Tigers 80-49. The girls contest was tightly-contested throughout as the teams exchanged leads often after the Eagles rallied form a first half-deficit to pull even at halftime.

Eleven individuals qualifi ed for this week's Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha by placing in the top four of their respective weight classes across different districts last weekend. At the District D-3 Tournament, Arapahoe produced a pair of district champions and three qualifiers for State.

BARTLEY - The Hi-Line girls basketball team saw its season come to a close Monday at the Subdistrict D1-10 Tournament with a 51-40 defeat to Wauneta-Palisade. The Bulls played the Broncos evenly and knocked down shots in the first quarter, but Wa-Pa took control in the second, stretching a 15-12 lead after a quarter to 30-19 at halftime.

HASTINGS - While there was hesitation to battle the snowy and icy roads on Saturday morning, the McCook High School swimmers and divers made the trek to Hastings worth their effort. “We questioned driving to the Hastings meet, but it was a very successful meet for the Bison,” Graff said, adding “A huge shout-out to Cassie Spencer for driving us up there and back safely.” The McCook swimmers and divers returned home with numerous school records, several automatic qualifying times for the state swim and dive meet and a variety of medals from gold through sixth place.
