The Medicine Valley boys basketball team got a win under its belt last week, but a second opportunity for a win was postponed as frigid temperatures moved through the state. The Raiders’ fourth win of the season came in front of their home fans Jan.

SUMNER - After each of its scheduled events for Friday and Saturday were cancelled or postponed due to cold and snow, the Cambridge wrestling team picked up the Sumner- Eddyville-Miller Invite on Friday to keep in competition for the week.

ELM CREEK - The Hi-Line wrestling team took on the Elm Creek Invite Friday, finishing eighth as a team while earning three medals. Parker Schutz led the team with a second--lace finish at 126 pounds, dropping a hardfought match in the finals to Sutherland’s Oliver Nutter.

IMPERIAL - Both the Southwest boys and girls wrestling teams traveled to Imperial Saturday for the Chase County Invite. All three girls wrestlers medaled for the Roughriders as Aubrey Seybold finished first at 135 and Ashlynn Latimer and Madelyn Tryon each took second in their weight classes.

EUSTIS - The Southwest and Hi-Line girls’ teams faced off last Tuesday. The Riders defeated the Lady Bulls 52-11.

ARAPAHOE - With a strong fourth quarter, the Arapahoe boys basketball team erased a deficit and completed a 56-51 comeback victory over visiting Hi-Line Friday. Hi-Line, which fell to 5-7, had led throughout much of the contest, but a corner three from Kade Fisher put the Warriors in front 51-48 with 3:30 to go.

Both the wrestling and basketball championships of the Republican Plains Activities Conference will take place this weekend. The basketball tournament, which lasts eight days, will begin on Saturday with first round games in the East being played at Medicine Valley and games in the West division being played at Wallace.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw contest was Sunday at 1:00. Age divisions are 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 years old (boys division for each age and a separate girls division for each age. The following were the winners in each division: 9 yr old girls: Claire Nickerson; 10 yr old girls: Callie Albers; 11 yr old girls: Halle Downer; 12 yr old girls: Lydia McGowen; 10 yr old boys: Marshall Nanfito; 11 yr old boys: John McGowen; 12 yr old boys: Will Nickerson; 13 yr old boys: Braxton Mitchell

HAYES CENTER - the Maywood-Hayes Center girls and boys basketball teams each took victories over red-hot Paxton squads Friday as the girls improved to 12-1 with a 40-37 victory and the boys moved to 11-2 with a 55-30 triumph.

SOUTHERN VALLEY - The Southern Valley girls basketball team beat Bertrand and Centennial last Thursday and Saturday. The Eagles defeated the Vikings 54-12 and the Broncos 53-43.
